QUICK WORD

User Scenario

Travellers in a foreign country may use dictionaries while learning to look up the meanings of words they don't understand, as well as to find the correct spelling and pronunciation of a word. However, there’re limitations to that - whether being not able to provide information on collocations or not being accessible in an impromptu situation.

How might we help users who are in need of language assistance to fetch a fast answer so that they can tackle unforeseen situations during their trips?

Project Sprint

In this Sprint + Product Design project, I followed a fixed time span (4-5 days), and I used an iterated working circle that includes tasks (design, development, test, and review) to complete the product interface and user flow.

After collecting user insights and synthesizing qualitative data, the direction of Quickword is set as a dictionary app designed for travellers who need language assistance. The app is designed to solve their pain points of not being able to receive translation results immediately, especially when an item is around users and they are eager to know the definition.

After the setting the user flow, initial sketches and the low fidelity prototypes are drafted.

The user flow displays three different methods with which users can look up the definition of an object right beside them - by scanning, voice input, or manual input, travellers can get a quick response of the meaning of the object in the spoken language of their travel destination. Based off the paper prototype above, some low-fidelity prototypes are generated.

Below is a brief branding design for Quickword including the visual inspiration. logo design, mascot Uncle Bean.

Uncle bean is created for a more personalized experience catered for the Quickword users.
